Technical Problems and Other Frequently Asked Questions
This section will be updated on a regular
basis as we begin to trouble shoot common problems with using
the DVD training and/or the website. If the answer to your
question is not found here, please check the other sections
of the website, as well as check the supplemental documentation
that will be provided soon. Otherwise, feel free to contact with
your questions, comments, and/or concerns and I will do my best
to resolve the issue. If it is an important issue pertaining to
the functionality of the course, I will add it to this FAQ section.
Also, remember questions about the use of specific hardware and/or
software is not covered here. Please check with your owner’s
manual for exact operating steps. The same goes for hardware issues
when using your PC or Mac for the website. Aside from issues arising
directly from the website, I am unable to give technical support.
Please talk to a station technician or IT professional. Thanks!
FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
| Q |
I am having troubles getting my DVD player
to play the DVD? |
| A |
Refer to your owners manual for specific operating directions.
Make sure you have the DVD player hooked up properly and there is power
to the unit. Make sure the DVD is inserted properly into the DVD player
(data side down) and that the DVD is free from scratches, smudges or other
damage. If problems persist, contact and
provide me with details about the error or problem. If the problem is determined
to be a faulty disk, arrangements will be made to have it exchanged. |
| Q |
My DVD remote
doesn’t work / I can’t
get the remote to do anything? |
| A |
Often times this is a problem with the
remote itself. If it is not responding to the buttons you press, first
check and make sure there are batteries in the remote and that they are
charged. If it still does not work, check your owners manual for more trouble
shooting tips. Make sure it is the correct remote. Often times, with a
TV, VCR and DVD player all in the same room for training purposes, someone
might have swapped the remote you intended to use. Most remotes have the
manufacturers name and model number on the bottom or back of the remote.
Match this with the unit you are using. |
| Q |
I can get the
DVD play, but I can’t
hear anything? Or I can’t see a picture but I can hear the audio? |
| A |
This is typically a problem either internally
with the DVD player or simply a connection has come out of the TV. Most
DVD players are hooked up with 3 plugs that are color coated. There is
a Red and White plug which are for audio, and a yellow plug for the picture
or video. Usually on the back of the TV (sometimes the front) there are
color matching holes that the plugs plug into. Make sure you have not unplugged
these. If they are plugged in properly, make sure the TV is on the correct
input channel. Many times there is a TV button called INPUT or VIDEO. Depending
on which input the DVD player is plugged into, you need the TV to be set
to the same channel. For example, VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2. Make sure the volume
is turned up on the TV and if available, volume is turned up on the DVD
player. If problems persist, contact the manufacturer. |
| Q |
The DVD player just froze in the middle
of a show? Or the picture is choppy and the audio is breaking up. |
| A |
This is not an issue with the DVD. Less
expensive DVD players and off brand DVD players will sometimes not be properly
built to the DVD alliances specs. This can cause overheating and then the
sporatic playback problems with the DVD. This is also a common problem
with portable DVD players and older laptops with DVD players. For this
reason, we highly suggest sticking with a set top DVD player in a conference
room. Based on the licensing agreement, you should not be using portable
devices such as portable DVD players or laptops for training purposes.
Please avoid these situations. The same applies for PC’s equipped
with DVD-ROM drives. PC’s and laptops also require software and hardware
requirements that are outside the scope of the license and intentions of
the training program. If you must use equipment other than the recommended
set top DVD player and TV combo, please confer with a manager and station
technician, engineer, or IT professional to make sure you can properly
use the training at your own discretion. |
| Q |
I can’t log into the website? / my
password doesn’t work? |
| A |
If you are an account executive, please
refer to the Help Me Login instructions on the previous screen for Account
Executives, for more detailed instructions. If you are a manager, instructions
can be found on the Help Me Login / Managers screen. If all else fails,
managers can reset AE passwords, and I can reset manager accounts, but
not passwords. Be sure to keep your password secure and change if you feel
you will forget it or someone else has access to it. |
| Q |
The website will not load? / The website
is missing things? |
| A |
Unless the website is taken down, you should
always be able to access it anytime of the day. If parts of the website
do not load, this might be related to settings with your browser or the
particular browser you are using. Talk to a station technician or IT professional
and have them review the problem. Try going to the website from another
computer with internet access, or using another browser. Also, make sure
you are connected to the internet. If problems persist, email me and I
will make sure this is not a website-wide issue. Generally if the website
is down, the main page will still be available and information will be
provided to let you know how soon it will be back up. In other words, I
will know before you do. If you receive specific error messages like Error
404, or Error 401, please email with details and I will check with the
web hosting company to see what can be done to resolve the issue. |
| Q |
When I click on a test, I hear a noise
but no questions come up? |
| A |
This is a problem that might begin to occur
thanks to the internets problem with pop-up advertisements and other pop-up
junk. Because of security policies at most companies and many home users,
web browsers have started including “pop-up blockers” to stop
the windows from appearing. In the near future Microsoft will be releasing
SP2 or Service Pack 2 for Windows XP which is basically a free upgrade
and bug fix for many of windows and Internet Explorer problems. Included
in this update will be a pop-up blocker. At this point, we have had no
issues with other pop-up blockers, but if you think that the testing window
is being blocked, check your settings and make sure you allow pop-ups from
this website. (the test window is not considered a pop-up, but every program
is different when it comes to dealing with websites.) Definitely check
with a technician if this continues and make sure it is not a more severe
problem like spyware or a virus on the computer. Try logging into the website
from another computer or using another browser. If the problem continues,
let me know I will talk to the developer and see if this is a local problem
or an issue across the board. |
| Q |
The questions
on the test are too hard! / The Questions are too easy! / The questions
don’t make any sense? |
| A |
Everyone will have their opinion about
the relative difficulty or ease of the testing. Please let me know what
you think! Online testing is a brave new world where everyone from elementary
schools all the way up to major universities and corporations are going
with their training. We are going to continue to evolve the testing as
much as we can to make sure it best fits your needs as a broadcast sales
account executive. Send me your feed back! |
